When To Give Your Skin Care Routine a Makeover

When To Give Your Skin Care Routine a Makeover

No matter how great your current skin care routine is, it may not last from season to season or year to year. Learn the signs that point to a need to switch things up regarding your skin care routine.

You Suddenly Have Zits

Preventing zits is one of the main reasons you desire to take such great care of your skin in the first place. When you notice sudden zits, you may need to switch the cleanser, face wash, toner or moisturizer you use. It could be a single product that’s the culprit, or it could be a combination of products. This clearing gel is perfect for getting rid of unwanted acne.

Your Face Is Red

While your skin may be clear, it could also turn a bright shade of red. As suggested above, try to narrow down which individual product or combination of products could be to blame.

Something else to take note of with redness is the fact that it could be your routine that’s causing the redness rather than your products. What we mean by this is that the water you use to wash your face could be too hot for your skin to handle.

You Want To Change an Aspect of Your Skin

Maybe you want to switch from a dewy fresh look to a poreless appearance. Either way, you’ll need to change the products you use to successfully achieve the change you desire.

Do a search of products that offer the results you seek, and research how effective they are for someone with your skin type. Be prepared for your skin to take a while to get used to the new products.

You Aren’t Getting the Results You Want (And Deserve)

If you flat-out aren’t getting the clear, radiant or well-moisturized skin you desire, it may be time to change things up. True, it can take a while for your skin to get used to your routine, but you’ve got to know when to call it quits and spend your time (and money) on something else.

You Have Dry Skin

If you have oily skin, you likely want skin that’s better balanced, but that’s not the same is having dry skin. Your skin care routine shouldn’t dry your skin out or cause it to flake, so if that’s what you’re noticing, you’re better off trying something different.

One reason for the dryness is it’s likely the products you currently use aren’t made for your skin type. Look into the ingredients to see which could be leeching moisture from your skin instead of replenishing and balancing it, and try a moisturizer perfect for dry skin.

You Have Oily Skin

On the opposite end of the spectrum, you could have skin that’s overly oily. This usually happens when you use a cleanser or exfoliant more than necessary, or if you wash your face too many times a day.

It’s best to moisturize even if you have naturally oily skin. This is because, without moisturizing, your skin can become oilier or take on an uneven tone.

You’re Pregnant

A woman’s body goes through more changes than she may realize during pregnancy, and she may have to change how she takes care of her skin while bringing life into the world. If you fall into this category, talk to your doctor and a dermatologist about how changes in your hormones can lead to changes in your skin. Oh, and congratulations!

You’re Getting Older

Because you (likely) don’t have the same skin problems as you did when you were a teenager or even in your 20s and 30s, you don’t need to use the same products to bring out the best in your skin. Look into changing things up in regards to your skin care routine to match your current age.

Your Skin Is Changing Along With the Seasons

The same products you use in the summer to take care of your skin shouldn’t be the same products you use in the winter. The weather and temperature impact your skin differently, and you should change products to adjust.

For instance, in the summer when it’s hotter, it’s better to use a lighter moisturizer. On the other hand, the dryness that winter brings is likely to necessitate a heavier moisturizing cream that lasts all day.

You’re Moving to a Different City

The tap water, climate, lifestyle, pollution and even the food of a different city has an impact on your skin. After you’ve moved, keep a close eye on your skin to see whether the routine and products you used in your old city need to be left behind.
