Wax and Threading Aftercare

Wax and Threading Aftercare

There is great convenience in waxing and threading but skin care is a vital part of your hair removal results. Here’s how to prep and care for your skin before and after your appointment.

Before Your Appointment

Make sure to exfoliate the skin sufficiently before you go to your hair removal appointment. This can help remove any buildup of dirt, bacteria, and dead skin cells that may be on the skin’s surface. When your skin is clean, the wax or threading will be much more effective. Our favorite exfoliator is Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator.

After Your Appointment

After you’ve had your hair removal done, try not to touch the area where you had hair removed. Your hands can transfer bacteria to the already sensitive area and make it more susceptible to breakouts and clogged pores.

Try to keep your face clean, especially the first 24 hours after you’ve had hair removed. The less sweat, dirt, makeup, and other grime on the area where you’ve had hair removal, the better.

If your hair removal is on the body where you may be wearing clothing, wear something loose. Putting tight clothing on freshly waxed skin won’t allow the skin to breathe and heal properly. Make sure the area can get plenty of air to prevent clogged pores and ingrown hairs.

Soothing the area can help. Your freshly waxed or threaded skin may be tender or irritated, and luckily there are products that can help with this. Aloe, witch hazel, and hydrocortisone creams can help alleviate some of the irritation that may occur. Finding a cream or gel that can replenish your skin without adding oil can be extremely soothing.
